MINDFULNESS

In cooperation with the Agency for psychological services "MOZAIK" we participated in the 6th Croatian Congress of Occupational Medicine in the poster section. Summary:

MINDFULNESS 

Mental training (meditation practice)  -  consciously and intentionally paying attention to present experience (sensations, thoughts, emotions) acknowledging it as it is; investigating personal experience non-judgmentally, in every detail, with curiosity and compassion. Benefits: reducing stress symptoms, chronic difficulties and pain, having presence of mind and general well-being.  Scientific research: Mindfulness Centres from leading world universities; proved structural changes in the brain.  History: Originating from Buddhist meditative practice it entered secular context in the West in late 70s. In1979. Jon Kabat Zinn established Stress Reducton Clini within Medical School at Massachusets University and developed 8 - week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programme. Mark G. Williams (Oxford University), John D. Teasdale and Zindel V. Segal (Toronto University)  developed Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for treatment of depression and emotional problems. MBSR and MBCT have become the basis for developing different mindfulness programmes. Application: healthcare (Centre for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts,  Harvard Medical School, many hospitals etc.), school (Mindful Schools etc.), army, business setting (Google, Wall Street, General Mills, Apple Computer, Yahoo, Deutche Bank, Ford etc.). „Mindful Revolution“ -Time Magazine cover January  2014.
